This Athens, GA, trio's fine debut CD features raw, energetic, and rather crazed, but honest music. Five Eight's frontman Mike Mantione's vocals are somewhat reminiscent of Kevn Kinney's work (solo and with Drivin' N' Cryin') or Michael Stipe on early R.E.M. releases. There are some slight musical similarities to these two other Georgia bands; but for the most part Five Eight has their own rockin' thing going on. I Learned Shut Up has great cover artwork by Chris Belheimer. Five Eight is perhaps the best Athens, GA, band that most people have never heard.
