Details
[Edit]My Brain Says Stop, But My Heart Says Go! is the latest uplifting release from a group that began as a spinoff from the Christian rap-metal band Thousand Foot Krutch. This time out, FM Static offers such infectious tunes as “(Hey) I Want It,” “F.M.S.T.A.T.I.C.” and the title number with plenty of rousing, all-join-together energy. Singer/guitarist Trevor McNevan is especially good at capturing a nostalgic sense of longing in tracks like “Cinnamon & Lipstick” and “Last Train Home.” The band’s musical attack matches slicing guitar riffs with bubbly melodies and grooves that range from rock to hip-hop in feel. The bratty sarcasm of “U Don’t Know Me Like That” is balanced by the sensitivity of “Black Tattoo” (a look at an abusive relationship) and “Inside Out” (a waltzing love song reminiscent of ’90s-era Edwin McCain). My Brain… overflows with shamelessly catchy hooks and chant-along choruses, but beyond its bounce and fizz is a positive, Spirit-grounded message as well.
