Details
[Edit]At first this CD, which has Christine Correa singing excerpts from poems and prose by the likes of Jack Kerouac, Anselm Hollo, Robert Creeley, Joel Oppenheimer, Gertrude Stein, Sebastien Chamfort, and Kenneth Rexroth, sounds like a Steve Lacy project for Irene Aebi. However, Correa has a stronger voice and there is more room for improvising, with plenty of fine solos from pianist Frank Carlberg (who wrote all of the music) and the very fluent tenor saxophonist Chris Cheek. Highlights include "Hills," the mysterious-sounding "Nowhere One Goes," and "Wit in Fools." Some of the fusing of music and words is a bit awkward, especially rhythmically (such as "In the Land of Art"), but in general the project works quite well, particularly due to the high musicianship and Correa's voice.
