Sinatra: Best of the Best was released in 2011 and surpasses all other collections by being the first to combine Frank Sinatra’s hit recordings for both Capitol Records and Reprise Records, the label Sinatra founded in 1960. Since Capitol released this comp, it should come as no surprise that the selections are a bit light on the Reprise side. His 1953 recording of “I’ve Got the World on a String” sets the tone with brass, sass, and old-guard swagger before a cover of “My Funny Valentine” that nearly rivals Chet Baker’s smoky version. And though it’s nearly impossible to not think of the TV sitcom Married with Children while hearing the playfully spiteful “Love and Marriage,” songs like the dapper “Witchcraft” beg to be listened to while wearing an Italian suit. Many of Sinatra’s '60s recordings have an incredibly rich resonance—especially the GRAMMY® Award–winning torch song “It Was a Very Good Year.” Over a pocket orchestra, Sinatra's voice sounds as saturated as the strings. The deluxe edition offers 19 extra songs.
