Details
[Edit]Polka Time is a pure polka dance platter with ten polkas, all but one of which are instrumental, performed with zest and good humor by Frankie Yankovic & His Yanks. The recordings were taped before a live audience at an unnamed event, although that often becomes apparent only at the end of each selection when the crowd roars its approval. "When You Wore a Tulip (And I Wore a Big Red Rose)" is the lone vocal number, which the Yanks sing in unison until the audience joins in for an enthusiastic singalong. The group keeps up a brisk dance except for "When It's Springtime in the Rockies," a moderate waltz with alternating organ and accordion leads. Polka Time was released by Harmony, Columbia's budget label, so the brief text provides no information about the vintage or origin of the recordings. Yankovic wasn't called the Polka King for nothing, though, so his arrangements and performances are well executed despite the generic packaging.
