Simplicity finds Frederick Losio in fine form. This is a very enjoyable well-produced zouk album that includes the traditional drum of Guadeloupe, the gwo ka, in the mix. The melding of the ancient drumming with techno wizardy makes for engaging listening and music that is also very danceable. He has gathered a lot of swing on this album and put it where it belongs. Losio's voice is sultry and drenched in tropical humidity. His vocals come across most strongly on the zouk love tracks. The songwriting is fresh sounding and avoids the pitfalls of sameness. The percussion is especially potent in spots and taps the timeless source of the music of the island. This is something that is all too rare on many zouk releases. "Chery" and the thunderstorm transition to "Matin Dore" are powerful tracks with exceptional sound quality. These tracks are what authentic zouk sounds like. This is a good introduction to Frederick Losio and is highly recommended.
