[Edit]Football and rock & roll? There have been a few times when both worlds collided (remember the Chicago Bears' tour de force from 1985, "Superbowl Shuffle"?), but the debut EP from Free Reign, 2010's Tragedy, is probably the first time that a group of football players sounded like a real rock band. Dallas Cowboys teammates Marc Colombo, Leonard Davis, and Cory Procter supply vocals, bass, and drums, respectively, and are rounded out by newcomer Justin Chapman on guitar. The result is a style of hard rock/metal that is also quite radio-friendly, bringing to mind such outfits as Disturbed and Godsmack. Think intro music for a fighter entering the ring during a UFC match, and you're not far off from what lies in store for you within Tragedy, especially such ditties as "In Your Head" and "Rise Up." These lads certainly know how to play football, and after hearing their debut release, Free Reign can hold their own surprisingly well against the majority of early 21st century radio rockers.
