There was a time when some people believed that guitar-based alternative rock and electronic club sounds could never be truly compatible. But in the 1990s, everyone from Garbage and Republica to Ministry exploded that myth. They demonstrated that electro-beats and guitar-powered aggression could do more than co-exist—they could be close friends and work well together. That is exactly what happens on Full Frequency's Momentum, which is a perfect example of alternative rock that manages to be dance floor-friendly without undermining the power of the electric guitar. Co-produced by Seibold of Hate Dept., Momentum is an album in which aggressive guitars and equally aggressive synthesizers work together for the common good. This is melodic rock—Full Frequency provides songs, not just beats—but it's melodic rock that incorporates elements of industrial, EBM and techno. Momentum isn't rave music; while a lot of rave music is just about the beat and the track, this CD thrives on vocal personality. Nonetheless, Full Frequency's songs are very dance club-minded, and Momentum is an appealing reminder of the mutually beneficial relationship that a muscular guitar and electro-beats can have.
