Details
[Edit]“The problem of leisure/What to do for pleasure.” Part of the Gang of Four’s project was rendering such lyrics catchy while stretching the framework of punk rock itself. 1979 Entertainment!’s attack on rock clichés dovetailed with their inquisitive sociopolitical philosophy which took on everything from the evening news to sexual attitudes to why so many other bands sang about romance so often. Go4’s music continues to influence recent bands with its adaptation of funk and reggae elements, not to mention Andy Gill’s scraping, skittering guitar. Maybe the single most significant document of the postpunk movement, Entertainment! speaks both for itself and an entire new way of thinking. This remastered deluxe edition contains the four single sides contained on the Yellow EP,” plus two alternate versions, the previously unreleased song “Blood Free” and an in-concert “Sweet Jane.”
