[Edit]Gene DiNovi, a veteran from the bebop era who spent many years accompanying singers, performs a set of unaccompanied solos on this CD. Ten of the songs are by Benny Carter (best known are "When Lights Are Low," "Only Trust Your Heart," and "Blues in My Heart"), along with his own "Conversation." Although one misses the bass and drums at times, DiNovi's style (which falls between swing and bop) and his affection for the songs works quite well. This release from the Scottish Hep label is worth searching for.
