This CD offers two Gene Vincent albums, Gene Vincent Rocks! And the Blue Caps Roll and Gene Vincent Record Date, in excellent sound (and in stereo, for those who care). Both date from a productive but somewhat awkward period in Vincent's career, in which his producers tried to present him doing softer songs, albeit with a rock & roll approach. "You Belong to Me" works in that regard, as do "Your Cheatin' Heart" and "The Wayward Wind," but the trilled electric guitar on "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" or "You'll Never Walk Alone" seems very forced. There's enough here that does work, however, especially from the first album's material, to please any rockabilly fan. Otherwise, there is no annotation or other information on this somewhat mysterious but nicely put together early-'90s compilation, which was good in its time but has since been supplanted by more recent compilations and reissues of Vincent's work.
