Details

[Edit]

A throwback-minded producer from Dallas, Gensu Dean is all about the golden era. One of the few beatmakers who still rocks the classic SP-1200, he deals exclusively in funk-heavy, sample-laden joints thick with dusty drum breaks that sound straight out of 1992. He has worked with Lord Jamar and Ol' Dirty Bastard, among others, and he now presents us with his first official album. It's 17 tracks deep and features collaborations with OGs like Large Professor ("Forever"), Brand Nubian ("In My Head"), Prince Po ("Heavy"), and DMC ("Co-Sign from the King"), as well as younger cats like The Planets and Roc Marciano. These cuts are extremely fresh, especially if you're old enough to remember when "Rapper's Delight" first came out. Don't miss "Forever," "Yen," "City Limits" featuring Count Bass D, and "Alice in Wonderland" with David Banner.
