For this set, tenor saxophonist Georgie Auld (whose last regular big band broke up in 1946) had a rare opportunity to front a larger group for a studio session. Using some of the West Coast's top players (including high-note trumpeter Maynard Ferguson, trumpet soloist Ray Linn, trombonist Frank Rosolino, and pianist Arnold Ross), Auld sounds fine on a set of swing-based tunes. The music mixes together swing, bop, and cool jazz in winning fashion; unfortunately, this LP (which is one in a series of In the Land of Hi Fi releases by various artists) has not been reissued on CD yet.
