[Edit]20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of George Jones draws upon Jones' legendary honky tonk recordings for Mercury during the mid- to late '50s and early '60s. It's ground that's covered much more thoroughly on the double-disc set Cup of Loneliness, and Rhino's The Best of George Jones 1955-1967 is a more satisfying single-disc overview of the period. However, this 12-track compilation is not without its virtues — it does gather some of the biggest hits and very best cuts that Jones recorded for Mercury, and it's a reasonable, mid-priced sampler perfect for those who don't want to spring for the double disc.
