It's Not Me, It's You

Some people get stuck in a rut while other people get in a groove. George Lopez is certainly the latter as his 2012 effort, It's Not Me, It's You, is almost indistinguishable from 2009's Tall, Dark & Chicano and 2007's America's Mexican, since it is still fueled by his racist grandma, Latino pride, the difficulty of raising children, and numerous drops of his provocative "Mas P**o!" (here sometimes uttered in an under-the-breath, abbreviation that sounds like "ma…pfft!" and still gets an uproar). It's just as worthy and hilarious as its predecessors, but if it needs to be separated, this is the one with the excellent "Trick or Treating" routine ("I live in one of those neighborhoods where they bring all the poor kids, cause they get better candy and they open the door") where Lopez drops "It ain't racial profiling if you get it right" like the concept of political correctness never happened. Kids get smacked around when they say something stupid, women get married and then turn into snoring/farting machines, and when it comes to dear old Grandma, she sees a Middle Eastern gentleman at the supermarket and remembers she needs towels (Asians remind her she's out of rice, and so on). Racial stereotypes come on hard throughout the bold and brash album, but Lopez also sees the beauty of the races mixing together, even if his grandmother doesn't, declaring mixed Mexican and Black babies the cutest he's ever seen, and giving the Brazilians some competition when it comes to desirable skin tone. The other attractive qualities this swaggering Archie Bunker offers is an amazing strut and stance, things that can't be seen on the audio-only release, but returning fans can fill in the grimaces and cool moves by memory, making this another laugh-filled souvenir of his live show.
