Details
[Edit]Drummer Gerry Gibbs has led a variety of “Thrasher” outfits since the ‘90s, with bassist Ron Carter and pianist Kenny Baron first recording as the Thrasher Dream Trio in 2013. Here Gibbs expands to include guests (saxophonist Steve Wilson, organist Larry Goldings, and vibraphonist Warren Wolf) for a set heavy on soul and pop classics. Even so, the tunes are pulled into the straight-ahead vein with Carter’s insistent pulse and Gibbs' steady beat providing a launchpad for the soloists. Highlights include gentle readings of “Living for the City-Overjoyed” and “Betcha by Golly, Wow,” as well as a playful take on “Too High.”
