The EP Es Em Ekel Em is Godzik Pink's third recording. This band combines razor-sharp instrumental tunes with an indie sloppiness level. Bass and drums provide an ever-shifting floor while the electric guitar and saxophone play angular melodies. The seven tunes presented here are short (nothing over three and a half minutes), punchy, and inventive. One can recognize a relation with avant-rock outfits like Forever Einstein, Boom, or even Massacre, Ne Zhdali, and the Lunar Bear Ensemble at times. Some tunes would gain to be developed a little more (like "Several Dogs," a fantastic fast number ending too abruptly), but in general Godzik Pink succeeds marvelously at summarizing a piece's possibilities in only a few minutes. There is a sense of urgency in the swift changes and the tortured sax line of "Lifting for the Lord" and "Several Dogs" that indicate this band must give a very energetic live show. Dislocated melodies over rock-in-opposition beats: the recipe is engaging and the meal, although small, is nourishing. ~ François Couture, Rovi
