[Edit]On Good Riddance's second album, the band have improved their songwriting chops considerably, finally bringing the music up to the level of Russ Rankin's always powerful lyrics, which often take shots at the government, conformity, and the American dream with deadly accuracy. Tracks like "Steps" and "Up & Away" (and many others) are even catchy, despite their deeply serious messages. The Comprehensive Guide to Moderne Rebellion is SoCal hardcore for the thinking punk, but the music is good enough on its own to satisfy even those who don't read the words.
