[Edit]Cross-dressing garage rockers? You could certainly say that's a fitting description of the fourth full-length overall by the Grannies, 2006's Gumjob. The album was produced by Seattle rock vet Jack Endino, and things are left suitably raw and grimy, which fits the Grannies' trash rock perfectly. A pair of covers — Devo's "Gates of Steel" and the Wipers' "Over the Edge" — prove that the group is not entirely about trying to rewrite "Louie, Louie," however. But a glance at the song titles — "Your Band Sucks," "Don't Step on My T**s," "Jesus Was a Homo," etc. — reveals that the band is also all about confrontation. Mix the frantic three-chord riff rock of G.B.H. with the in-your-face approach of the Dwarves — and add in Divine's fashion sense for good measure — and voila, you now have the ingredients for a Grannies cocktail.
