Self-produced and recorded in a former church in Maine, Landline is a massive-sounding album of adult pop that features a number of special guests, from Sara Bareilles on the opening track, "Come Back Down," to Laswell's wife, Ingrid Michaelson, on the title track. Laswell hits a musical groove that takes Coldplay's atmospheric grandeur and filters it through his own lyrical concerns, where life is there for the inspiration and the emotion. "Another Life to Lose" is deeply gripping. Elizabeth Ziman joins Laswell for the dark and ominous "Back To You." Sia turns "Dragging You Around" into a radio-ready pop tune. "New Year's Eves" has that misty and reflective (but meticulously produced) vibe that many listeners will recognize as the style often heard on NCIS and Grey's Anatomy, where Laswell's music has been featured in the past. This version of the album includes the bonus track "She Tears It out of Me."
