[Edit]This reviewer was privileged to see Grupo AfroCuba live during their 1998 North American tour, and is pleased to report that Raices Africanas, their first full-length release, captures beautifully the magical blend of sacred and profane at the heart of traditional Cuban music. The liner notes give a concise, readable background to the music and to the pivotal role of Grupo AfroCuba in both maintaining tradition and in expanding it to a new era. Now if only this were a multimedia disc so that one could see the dancers....
