Details
[Edit]A worthy successor to the highly enjoyable Vampire Music, Vol. 1, this 12-track collection offers exactly more of the same: a dozen traditional-style Gypsy tunes rooted in Transylvanian folk forms. Don't be fooled by the comic book title and cheap-looking cover art; this is fully authentic Gypsy pop music recorded in Transylvania itself. Though some rather silly "atmospheric" sound effects link a few songs, tunes like "When the Gypsies Come Out to Play" (featuring a distinctive characteristic of Eastern European dance music, an arrangement that slowly builds to a frenzied climax from a measured start) and the more pop-oriented "Gypsy Happiness" will sound quite familiar to anyone familiar with the style. More importantly, this album and its predecessor are a handy introduction to a hugely enjoyable but too-often underappreciated regional musical form.
