[Edit]Halle Petro is a true grassroots performer. After working a day job to finance her debut album, Lucky You, she quit so she could tour and promote the record. A sizable fanbase encouraged Petro to try a Kickstarter campaign to finance her second album, and the money came in. She and her band The Jilt—guitarist (and co-writer) Michael Gomez, bassist Tim Luntzel, and drummer Jon Wert—went to work on this diverse collection of bluesy rock with jazz touches. "Take What I Can Get" throws a harmonica into a sparse band workout that makes dramatic use of the stereo space, throwing the guitar to one speaker and the harmonica to the other. "Kiss My Ghost" kicks up a few jazz chords and a funky rhythm for a street-smart nocturnal walk about town. "Confessions" goes for an R&B ballad in the Bobby "Blue" Bland vein. "Signs," with a meticulously fingerpicked guitar, touches on folk. "Trees" even turns to pop-rock without losing the band's tough persona.
