[Edit]With period-correct good looks and vintage instruments, Los Angeles glitter-rock quartet Hammered Satin takes on early-'70s junkyard glam with the discipline of Civil War recreationists. There are no musical anachronisms in any of this promising EP's four songs. “Lightspeed Driver” opens with stomping rhythms, handclap percussion, quirky Moog squiggles, and sparkling guitar riffs that—along with singer Noah Wallace’s commanding presence—all come together to sound like the offspring of Iron Virgin and The Sweet. “Glitter Goddess” gets a little grittier with crunchy guitar riffs and searing leads blasting under Wallace’s vocals, which take on Noddy Holder from Slade (save for some impressive falsettos). “Cougar Kingdom” imports the high backing vocals heard in the background of T. Rex’s “Mambo Sun,” though the tongue-in-cheek lyrics have more in common with Steel Panther's Michael Starr than Marc Bolan. “Interstellar Lady” closes on barbed guitar hooks and a cosmic-sounding analog keyboard providing future sounds (from the past), as Wallace shows off his dynamic vocal range.
