The name Hand of Fate might have led some to believe that the band specialized in gloom and doom of either the industrial or Gothic variety, but the songs on this underexposed CD hardly fit that description. Hand's focus was melodic rock & roll heavily influenced by the Rolling Stones, as well as U2. It isn't that lead singer John Keck, or guitarist Rick Boston, are going out of their way to emulate either Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, or Bono and The Edge, but their admiration for both bands comes through loud and clear on "Love Revolution," "God Is Alive," and the psychedelic-tinged "Ashes of Eve." Not earth-shattering but thoughtful and well crafted, this CD proves that Hand of Fate didn't deserve to be so obscure.
