Harper Lee haven't changed a thing since the release of 2002 's Everything's Going to Be OK. On All Things Can Be Mended, the duo of ex-Blueboy leader Keris Howard (vocals, guitar, and keyboards) and Laura Bridge (guitar, drums, backing vocals, and piano) maintain a steady course straight into the heart of Sarah Records-style indie pop nostalgia. What this means for the listener is swooning synth washes, gently jangling guitars, melodic basslines, and most of all, heartbroken and tender vocals singing wistful songs of love lost. Just a look at the titles lets you know what you are in for: "Everybody Leaves," "There Is a Light in Me That Is Gone," "This Is the Sound a Heart Makes When It's Breaking" — each more sad and blue than the next. Even the one song that promises a ray of hope, "Everything's Going to Be OK," is pretty darn gloomy. No surprise there. In fact, there are no surprises at all, just solid indie popcraft perfect for wallowing in heartbreak and ennui.
