Harpo Marx certainly was an original, reversing from a singing and comedy act to a deaf-mute character. Musically, he was just as unusual, playing rather stuffy material on an unlikely intrument, the harp. He never had any formal training, but he was very good. Harpo (or Harpo in Hi Fi — the album cannot seem to decide) is perhaps the perfect example of the kind of record a 1950s bachelor would play to impress a date. Never mind the advent of stereo, this is what romantic background music was supposed to be. On "Lullaby Doll," Harpo even whistles. The Fred Katz Orchestra provides backing.
