Details
[Edit]This CD reissue brings back the music that pianist Walter Bishop, Jr. recorded on two occasions with bassist Butch Warren and either Jimmy Cobb (on a dozen numbers) or Granville T. Hogan (four other songs). Perhaps for potential airplay reasons, all of the selections are under four minutes apiece (only three exceed three minutes), but as in the days of the 78, Bishop plays a great deal of music in a short period of time. The performances are essentially classic bebop, although 11 of the 16 tunes (five by Bishop) can be considered obscurities. An underrated gem.
