[Edit]San Francisco Chrome legend Creed is still at it three decades later, still offering no quarter. With help from Butthole Surfers' J.D. Pinkus on bass and the late Chrome founder Damon Edge's ex-girlfriend Fabienne Shine from French '70s Dictators offshoot Shakin' Street singing three songs, this Austin-made solo LP is a set of 14 hardcore, freaky excursions of his sprawling neo-psychedelic/industrial/space/sludge rock collisions ("Fields of Green" is even a malicious, buzzing perversion of soul). Plus there's an equally twisted, nearly evil reinvention of the Velvet Underground's "All Tomorrow's Parties," with Shine quietly conjuring the Teutonic rigidity of the late Nico. The nearly seven-minute "Beginning of Light" and the spazzed "Got to Have Someone" are typical of Creed's inversions, pairing his insistent and dirty, fuzzed out guitars (a specialty) and repetitive riffs to a voice that sounds like it comes from a bad trip nightmare mixed with Frank from Blue Velvet. Wild, slightly sadistic, and totally brain-expanding.
