[Edit]Alaskan singer/songwriter Hilary Weeks hits her creative stride with the songs on 2011’s Every Step. “That’s Who I Am” opens confidently with ascending melodies and heartfelt, self-empowering lyrics. “Find Me” follows; it's a ballad built on bass, piano, and Weeks’ voice, which sounds a bit like Jonatha Brooke in her higher register. The impassioned “Beautiful Heartbreak” embraces emotional pain in the balance of life. Themes of faith abound throughout Every Step, especially in the gauzy, feel-good tune “Living Proof” and the uplifting “I Will.” Weeks one-ups the adage about dancing like nobody’s watching with her inspired “Dancing in the Rain.” The album standout “Past the Point” is an instantly memorable pop song boasting some pretty high crossover potential.
