God Is Able captures the veteran Australian ensemble in a live setting and benefits from the fervent participation of the crowd. Worship team leaders Joel Houston, Darlene Zschech, Reuben Morgan, Ben Fielding and Jill McCloghry bring a personal sense of humility and devotion to the songs offered here, though individual expression is less important than the universal experience of worship. As before, sleek upbeat rock tracks are intermingled with more contemplative midtempo numbers. Opening track “The Rise” serves as an anthemic battle cry for believers, while “The Difference” keeps the momentum going with furious guitars and a propulsive bass line. Tunes like the dreamy, heart-tugging “The Lost Are Found” and the dramatic “Alive In Us” highlight the unshakable connection between God and believers in gentler but no less effective ways. If there’s a standout track here, it’s “Cry of the Broken,” a retelling of Christ’s sacrifice that travels from sorrow to triumph. It serves as a stirring closer to yet another Spirit-filled, musically resonant offering from Hillsong.
