Ruthless Sperm

This Italian trio apparently lived on a steady diet of Stooges albums and whatever it could grab from Germany's '70s Krautrock scene. The first two and a half minutes of "Death Climb" sound like a band that overheard industrial music coming from a neighboring apartment and then replicated what that sounded like—with a result, in many cases, more exciting than the original thing. "Spit Dirt" strips back the blinding noise for a few seconds to let the drums catch a rhythm, and then the Krautrock version of "Raw Power" kicks in for eight glorious minutes of psychedelic tripping. The unison group vocals sound like angry children rebelling against their school bus driver. "Sea Bug" blasts and rumbles like Sonic Youth at its most hyper-charged. "Tumor" shifts gears ever so subtly, with the ambient tone creating a deafening wall of sound before the mid-song breakdown. "Born Tired" throws elements of X's "White Girl" into its rhythmic mix while expanding the sound with over-modulating keyboards. "Red Earth" quiets things down for the perfect date by lava lamp.
