Hüsker Dü were a furious power trio, both in sound and in output. Flip Your Wig was released only months after the masterful New Day Rising and a little more than a year after the career-defining double LP Zen Arcade, and it shows no signs of wear. In fact, Flip Your Wig is an often-cited fan favorite, featuring several of the band's most loved songs: the title track, "Makes No Sense at All," "Green Eyes," and "Flexible Flyer." Bob Mould and Grant Hart were growing as songwriters, and the competition between them ensured some of the catchiest tunes of the band's career. Mould had usually dominated the albums, but by Wig Hart was bringing in a decent haul, as opposed to a few spectacular highlights. His "Green Eyes" remains one of the band's most haunting tunes, while "Every Everything" and "Keep Hanging On" further boosted his reputation as the "hummable Hüsker." The production's cleaner, with the vocals given better emphasis, but nothing cleans up Mould's dirty wall of guitar. Flip Your Wig is yet another highlight for the band.
