Details
[Edit]I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch In the House is not a band to take things in half measures. Its blend of Skynyrd-derived roots rock and Stonesy swagger is as fearlessly confrontational and as carelessly foolhardy as the drunkenly shouted challenge the band chose for a name, and though Michael Dean Damron has been recording with I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch for nearly a decade, few of the group’s studio albums approach the unhinged fury of the set captured on Live at Dante’s. On record I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch conjures roots-rock touchstones like Neil Young, the Allman Brothers and the Band, but Live At Dante’s lays bare the group’s punk rock heart. Damron comes on like the vitriolic spawn of David Allen Coe and Johnny Rotten, delivering put-downs, challenges, and insults with frightening conviction while the band plugs away at tunes with the lumbering determination of the early Stooges. A bracing, even frightening album, Live At Dante’s is the only full-length to capture the true character of this strange but fascinating American band.
