At the dawn of the 1990s, the term "alternative rock" was used to describe any rock that differed from the corporate rock that album-oriented rock radio (AOR) was playing at the time. The Los Angeles-based I Love You was labeled alternative, but when you get down to it, this decent CD really isn't all that different from the 1960s rock that AOR radio held in high regard. The psychedelic rock of the late 1960s (especially Cream) is a definite influence on "Jesus," "Hang Straight Up," "She's the One/I.N.S.E.T." and other selections, but I Love You has a metallic aggression that clearly came from a lot of 1970s and 1980s bands. While these underexposed rockers don't shy away from heaviness and a high-decibel attack, melody is also a priority. Unfortunately, I Love You was far from a big commercial hit.
