For album three, Denmark’s Iceage open with “On My Fingers,” a song that immediately suggests a Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds track with a very lubricated Cave leading the charge. But it’s merely singer Elias Bender Ronnenfelt slurring words while the group do their very best imitation of a merry band of pirates. A number of tracks suggest this comparison, but the group are aiming to transition from stylish punk rock to European art house/American blues. Drummer Dan Kjaer Nielsen keeps the tempo and provides the tribal flourishes necessary to turn even the ballad (“Glassy Eyed, Dormant and Veiled”) into something menacing.
