[Edit]Combining hip-hop-type production with a healthy appreciation of the 1970s soul belting of Donny Hathaway and L.T.D., Two D Extreme had a decent sophomore effort in From I Extreme II Another. Many of the so-called "jeep soul" releases that came out in the mid- to late '90s contained an abundance of rapping, but that isn't the case on this collection of mostly ballads and slow jams — with Two D Extreme, the hip-hop influence asserts itself in the production style more than the vocals. Extreme members D'Extra Wiley, Randy Gill (Johnny Gill's brother) and Jermaine Mickey may employ some hip-hop terminology, but the full-bodied, gospel-influenced lead vocals and big harmonies owe a major debt to the classic soul music of the 1970s. Although cuts like "Lyin' Here Thinkin'," "Seasons (Of Love)," and "If I Knew Then (What I Know Now") aren't terribly original or very distinctive, they're sincere and soulful.
