Though Images in Vogue had already achieved a small amount of Canadian fame on the strength of its first EP (by Canadian standards, the single Lust for Love was a smash hit), it would be two years before the band followed through with its debut full-length album. When the album finally hit, though, it was obvious that the bandmembers were serious: They traveled to Los Angeles to record with Gary Wright, who helped them hone their dreamy, synth-heavy sound. Reworked versions of three songs from the 1984 Rituals EP appear here, as do a number of new tracks like the excellent leadoff number, "Promised Land," and the title track, which deals with suburban teenage alienation. Though the album was a fairly solid collection of enjoyable synth pop, it was really too little too late for people who were hooked by Lust for Love, and the band was only rewarded with a couple of fairly minor hits (the title track did OK in dance clubs). Shortly after the album's release, Kevin Crompton left to concentrate on his side project, Skinny Puppy, and after a remix EP that remixed Crompton's contributions right out of the mix, the band decided to call it quits.
