This album got a lot of notice when it was first released because it is a debut album containing 42 songs, essentially demo recordings, by Georgia songwriter Jack Logan. In his notes, Peter Jesperson of Twin Tone Records mentions coyly that he heard about Logan from "guitarist Peter Buck" — careful not to drop the R.E.M. association. Without this connection, one doubts that there would be a Logan album, and certainly not a 42-song debut. The songs are occasionally interesting but mostly derivative rock and R&B tunes. The lyrics are certainly not distinguished. If this were as auspicious a debut as is claimed by some of the sticker blurbs, then there must be a thousand unknown geniuses just waiting to burst forth. On the other hand, one song, "Chloroform," has twisted lyrics and a cool distorted track.
