Details
[Edit]Jacob's Trouble sound like they've listened to a lot of Byrds, Big Star, Long Ryders, and maybe even mid- to late-'70s Flamin' Groovies, without ever sounding exactly like any of them. This album has lots of hooks, and the mix of chiming guitars and a lean, stripped down overall sound, and forceful, expressive vocals is pretty compelling — the whole production makes one think of an upbeat version of the Gin Blossoms. And Knock, Breathe, Shine is not just a pleasant surprise but an eminently enjoyable record, all the more so as it displays an earnestness and seriousness amid the high-energy folk-rock sound that makes it sound like something cut in 1968 or 1969, not 1990.
