Don't call it frat rap because the appeal is so much wider, but rapper Jake Miller is obviously influenced by Asher Roth, Sam Adams, and Macklemore, and offers the same kind of bright swagger and quick wit. Fast forward to the middle of this EP and that wide appeal overflows with "A Million Lives," a track combining a Dave Matthews-style backbeat as Miller raps/reads a letter from a fan who was recently diagnosed with cancer. He's got the talent to pull it off, and even when the rest of the material is aimed right at the radio, he's really just a rapper with a natural pop heart and it wouldn't be honest to call any of this forced.
