[Edit]The trip-hop/acid jazz team of Marlon Saunders and Warren Rosenstein can be relied on for smooth, funky tracks, but the songs on this record don't exactly leap out at you - least of all the lethargic cover of the Velvet Underground's "Femme Fatale." "Hush" is a bit catchy, though. If anything, Blackburst succeeds as exceptionally chic background music. There are nice guest vocal spots by Rosa Russ and Michelle Lewis, as well as colorful choices in instrumentation - French horn, trumpet, flute, saxophone. Scott Colley, a highly respected jazz bassist, plays on a few of the cuts. ~ David R. Adler, Rovi
