Details
[Edit]Though he became a fixture on the dance club scene through his mastery of house jazz/nu-jazz, Tokyo DJ Jazztronik (aka Ryota Nozaki) started out with a simple love of jazz and a strong hand on the piano. On Set Free, his sophomore full-length effort, both the nu-jazz (electronica with a strong basis in jazz) and the contemporary jazz are displayed. In the title track, Jazztronik plays a straightforward piano melody with noteworthy skill, while for the album opener, he mixes a piano loop into a wider array of instruments with the tapped hi-hat common to '90s dance clubs. An early step toward his eventual fame, Set Free was an indicator of Jazztronik's musical sensibilities.
