Details
[Edit]Here's Jelly Roll Morton in the studio pretty much for 1927 and 1928, recording with his own Red Hot Peppers, as well as various trios and quartets. He's also playing piano and doing arranging behind Johnny Dunn and his band and the Levee Serenaders. The big ticket items are the first seven tracks with Red Hot Peppers, the band featuring both Johnny and Baby Dodds in the lineup. Boasting multiple takes of "Jungle Blues," "Beale Street Blues," "The pearls," "Wolverine Blues," "Mr. Jelly Lord" (with two different bands), and "Shreveport Stomp," this brings us closer to the actual studio experience in those early days of recording. Morton is at the top of his game on these sides and no matter what the setting or the role he plays in the proceedings, his signature style is unmistakable.
