Details
[Edit]On his second worship album, Jeremy Camp goes for an expansively dramatic sound that makes the most of his heroic vocal style. If 2004’s Carried Away took the Indiana-born singer into the Southern rock territory of Third Day, this project invites comparisons with the rafters-shaking likes of Delirious? and the Passion album series. We Cry Out gives Camp deeply reverent lyrics that transform his individual testimony into a message of hope for all believers. Thanks in part to Brown Bannister’s production, tracks like “The Way” and “Overcome” combine ambient instrumental textures with thunderous choruses, lending emphasis to the uplifting content of the songs. Camp soars high on the anthemic “Not Ashamed,” basks in atmospheric piano echoes in “King Jesus,” and turns down the volume for the vulnerable “Unrestrained.” A heartfelt version of the often-recorded ballad “Mighty to Save” compliments the new songs. Through all the tracks, Camp projects an unshakable conviction and burning spiritual hunger.
