Details
[Edit]Decades after his move from the Nashville scene, Jerry Byrd was still making beautiful music on his steels. The sound is certainly more classic Waikiki than classic Nashville. As Byrd was really a virtuoso of the instrument, there aren't any vocals that one would usually expect after listening to old Sol Ho'opii recordings or the like. Here, it's just piece after piece of sweet slides and arpeggios. The main analogy in sound one can draw to the works here is with the old Alfred Apaka recordings. These works are classics, and are treated as such. There's beauty in both the large sweeps and the subtle slides of tone. Overall, a very nice example of the Hawaiian music Byrd made after his 1968 departure from the continent.
