Details

[Edit]

This phenomenal release collects four official live albums that Jerry Lee Lewis recorded between 1964 and 1970. There are the essential 1964 releases Live at the Star Club, Hamburg and The Greatest Live Show on Earth, plus 1966's By Request: More of the Greatest Live Show on Earth and 1970's Live at the International, Las Vegas. Sixteen bonus tracks, including 10 previously unreleased cuts, complete this tour de force. The first 13 tracks from the Star Club make up a legendary live album, explaining why Lewis is known as The Killer. The versions of "High School Confidential," "Matchbox," "What'd I Say," and "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" alone are greater than his definitive studio recordings from the '50s, which is saying something. The song selection is strong throughout, with R&B and country well represented. "Green Green Grass of Home," "Cryin' Time," and "She Still Comes Around (To Love What's Left of Me)" head up the best of the country tunes. Back in his heyday, there wasn't anything Lewis couldn't sing. And the stage was the best place to hear him, alive and kicking with defiance and expert showmanship.
