Details
[Edit]Hailing from North Philadelphia, Jill Scott is a true triple threat (singer/songwriter, actress, and spoken-word poet) who got her start performing with hometown heroes The Roots back in 2000. Since then, she has released four successful studio albums, won three GRAMMYs®, and starred in several hit movies, including Tyler Perry's Why Did I Get Married?. On Crates: Remix Fundamentals Volume I (Spring Summer Feeling), we're presented with new twists on 11 of her songs, updated and reconfigured by producers like DJ Jazzy Jeff, Teddy Vee, Ca$e Boogie, Mr. Mig, Ron Trent, and Kyle West. The album's first half is mostly on the Euro-inspired dance music tip, with big synths, beeping hooks, and highly mechanical beats that ramp up the tempo and transform previously mellow tunes into hi-tech club bangers. The second half slows things down and culminates with the dreamy spoken-word jam "Love Rain." This set is the first edition of an ongoing trilogy; other standouts include "Golden," "Come See Me," and "Bedda at Home."
