New age pianist Jim Brickman has spent the last 20 years refining his vision of solo piano music by balancing a strong melodic core, a restrained sense of passion, and whimsical yearning. His first album of 2015 (Brickman is nothing if not prolific) is targeted to Valentine’s Day with a mix of originals and covers. Popular tracks like Sting’s “Fields of Gold” and Sarah McLachlan’s “I Will Remember You” are obviously simpatico to Brickman’s romantic style, but the pianist is also unexpectedly successful with Bob Dylan’s “Make You Feel My Love.” Originals that shine include “Valentine” and “All of Me.”
