Details
[Edit]Jim Greer hits his stride on his second album The Big Thieves Jail the Little Thieves, which blends the production savvy he gained working with Dr. Octagon and Tipsy with down-to-earth songwriting skills. Catchy, quirky, ever-so-slightly melancholy songs like "Stay and Flatter Me" and "What You Might Have Done" sound a bit like They Might Be Giants' ballads, or Michael Penn on a goofy day. Greer's clever arrangements and production touches on "In It Now," "Perfect Trees," and "This Is What I Mean" give the album a sound that's more polished than usual indie rock fare, but still edgier and more unpredictable than anything played on alternative rock radio. With any luck, Greer's eclecticism won't keep him from the audience he deserves, because The Big Thieves Jail the Little Thieves should be heard by fans of amusing, well-crafted pop.
